MISSION MIRACLE

This is Aroha who got baptised not long ago and she is in her 20's. She was a Golden Investigator! The first time we met her was at church! She went to a ward activity in which some members invited her too. At the activity she got invited to church and she said yes! She came and that Sunday she was introduced and a time was set up to be taught by the missionaries. The first time we met her she has already read through all the Gospel principles book and she went to all the church activities and even attended Mission prep. As we went through he lessons she already knew them and we committed her to read and pray about it. We also set a date. The next time that we met we followed up with her reading and praying and she just said simply. 'i know its true' without any hesitation. She is amazing at feeling the spirit and she just said she knew it was true from reading. However later on during the teaching eventually she apparently bore her testimony in a class as they were teaching prayer and she shared the amazing experience that she was praying but she didn't really feel like she got an answer, however she thought about why and she read the Moroni promise again and the 'sincere heart and real intent' part stood out to her and she realised she wasn't doing that. And so with that she prayed again, very seriously and intending on following the answer and she said she never felt the spirit so strong and she knew that it was all true. She now continues to attend mission prep jsut got her temple recommend and is planning on going to the temple. She was a member before we even started teaching. The only times we really met her was when we were teaching the lessons and the members did the rest of the work. This is how it should be. When the members participate in the work miricles like this unfold. She has an amazing conversion experience and she is loving every second and being a part of the true church on the earth today.

WELCOME TO BRISBANE....

 THE JOHNSON FAMILY

Whenever you move to a new place, there is always someone that reaches out to you first...this beautiful family found us, welcomed us and made us feel at home here in Brisbane and in the Chermside Ward.  They invited us over for brownies and icecream and we had a wonderful time with their adorable children.  We also had a special invitation to "Pie Night" for family home evening; they told us that in November when it is time to celebrate American Thanksgiving (keeping a few traditions from home), it is so hot and humid that you just don't feel like having a big turkey dinner and pie.  So they decided to have a pie night in August "Australia's winter".  We weren't able to attend, but I thought it was a great idea.

We love this family!

We love that they are  working to be a forever family!

We love that they made us feel at home!

THANK YOU!

P.S. Sister Johnson just delivered a beautiful baby girl....CONGRATULATIONS!

Another Great Elder departing for home:  ELDER BAKER....RETURN WITH HONOR!
We are grateful for the sacrifice, service, loyalty and dedication of these good missionaries.  It is not easy to leave everything that is comfortable, easy, and familiar to be sent far away from home (for most of them) and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  They are willing, able and hard-working missionaries and we get to be one of them!

ZONE MEETING FUN

The CLEVELAND ZONE missionaries gathered for zone meeting.

We love attending the zone meetings with the different zones in the ABM mission.  They are planned, organized, conducted and presented by the zones and their leadership.  There are wonderful doctrines shared, reports given, and topics discussed that help the Elders and Sisters with their efforts in preaching the Gospel in their particular area of the mission.

MISSION MIRACLE 3

This great man is from Taiwan. His parents divorced when he was young. One day in his 20s, he went to a Presbyterian church in Taiwan. Nobody invited him, he just went. He continued going and eventually became a Christian. Later in his 20s he decided to go to Australia on a working holiday visa, to start a new life and find himself. On his first afternoon here, he was standing on the street with his luggage with his friend Chester. Chester's friend Dora, who had been in Australia longer, was with them. A few weeks prior, Dora had been street contacted by Elder Ladd. She had gone to English Class at Kangaroo Point. As it so happened, that day Elder Ladd and his companion Elder Monsen had just arrived in the city after an appointment. Elder Ladd spotted Dora and stopped by to say hi, and met Philip and Chester. The next day, Philip and Chester came to church. Philip continued to do so until he left Australia, not much more than a month later. He felt he had accomplished his goals for coming to Australia: he found himself in the LDS church and started a new life through baptism, on July 27, back in his hometown in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

MISSION MIRACLE 2

Conversion Story
It all started when I was 12 years old. My mother and I were going for a night walk and a sense of evil overcame me and left me feeling terrified. I told my mother as I was upset and she told me we were going to take a moment of prayer. After the prayer I felt a feeling of love, security and warmth with a happiness I have never felt before. From the time onward my testimony for my faith in Heavenly Father grew. Just a few months ago from now I overcame tough trials that life had in place for me. Just when I had no idea what to do in my life, he planted seeds of dreams in my heart and life changing opportunities were created. Following the Holy Spirit’s prompting I was set to go to Brisbane for University, not knowing why but I was prompted not to question Heavenly Fathers plans for me. I came from a small community town called Sarina so I had no idea how I was going to live in a big city with no one. Wanting to live a righteous life in this big city, I prayed to heavenly Father asking him to find me an Anglican church to be confirmed in. The next day my friend, a member of the LDS church, Natakka Alberts made contact with me and called in for a visit. She invited me to attend the church with her and I felt a strong prompting from the Holy Spirit telling me to accept this church. Not knowing about this church, I was totally against the idea.  We met up with the missionaries the next day and they clarified everything for me. Later that night, just before bed I took a moment of prayer and asked Heavenly Father so sincerely if those things were true. The Holy Spirit responded with filling my heart up with happiness and I knew from that moment that those things were true! I made the decision that I wanted to get baptised. Soon after that I lost the desire to curse, fill my body with toxic or bad drinks because it was the closest things to happiness I had ever felt in my whole entire life! I was spiritually awakened and within days my testimony for the church grew immensely. Every day I had lessons with my missionaries, Elder Kono and Elder Nagato. They taught me so much about the plan of salvation, the restoration of the gospel, all of the commandments, the prophet Joseph Smith and so much more. The more I exercised faith, the more miracles were made. The more I acted upon my faith by listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, the easier it was to battle the devils temptations.  Within those short 2 weeks I overcame many trials. The scriptures and prayer opened up my communication with Heavenly Father and my testimony in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ grew. My baptismal day was the best day in my whole entire life! I felt that I truly did make my first covenants with Heavenly Father. The empty hole I had in my heart had been filled with heavenly Father and Jesus Christ’s unconditional love he has for us and I have never in my life endured such an indescribable happiness then what had felt that moment. I was reborn. I have finally retuned into the arms of my eternal Father and I’ve been filled with the desires to go out and share the gospel with the world. It inspired me to go on a mission! I’ve already grown a testimony in tithing because Heavenly Father has already blessed me with giving me back double my tithing money within hours! I have a strong testimony to every single one of the commandments because I know that Heavenly Father knows what’s best for us. I believe that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and Thomas S Monson is a true living prophet today! I believe that Jesus Christ lives today because he comforts me endlessly. I’m ever so grateful to be blessed with amazing missionaries, friends and church members who all love and care for me. As I go through more trials in life, I will always remember to reflect my baptismal day and remember my covenants with Heavenly Father. As I partake of the sacrament I will always remember the ultimate sacrifice that our Saviour, Jesus Christ had made for us. I write these precious words in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Amen          Madison

OASIS OF THE OUTBACK

MT. ISA -- AUSTRALIA  Described as the Oasis of the Outback – a gleaming mirage on the horizon for travellers from all directions – Mount Isa nestles among the ochre-red Selwyn Ranges, on the banks of the Leichhardt River. Mount Isa's existence and its main financial base is the huge Mount Isa Mine, the world”s largest single producer of copper, silver, lead and zinc. In 1923, John Campbell Miles found a silver-lead ore outcrop and sent a sample to Cloncurry to be assessed. Miles pegged two leases and soon 500 were filled. Mount Isa Mines took over operations in 1924. This rich deposit is still producing high volumes of ore and is classed as one of the world's great mines.

SO WHAT DOES ONE DO IN MT. ISA....while President Henderson is interviewing the wonderful members of the Mt. Isa Branch?
Go and visit the kangaroo sanctuary with a wonderful family in the Branch: Alex and Lorena Coggins!  I had the unique and unbelievable experience feeding 27 baby kangaroos and wallaby's who were orphaned due to hit and runs on the roads near Mt. Isa.  These sweet babies were found along the roads at various times over the past few months and brought to Joyce and Kevin's sanctuary to be nurtured and cared for until they are old enough to be freed in the wild
These joeys are fed a bottle every four hours....Joyce is an angel to these little orphans!

I guess if I can't be home to cuddle and feed our new little angel twins and our new little angel girl to be born any day...this is a great substitute!
Joyce makes pouches for these little joeys and they hop around and jump right in when they want to sleep or hide.

MISSION MIRACLE 1

Testimony of
LAUREEN JAYNE

My husband was born into the church, but at the age of 16 he fell away. He since went through a lot of trials and because of it, he has a great testimony.  He was re-activated into the church October 2012.
I spent Sundays at home while Paul went to church, I attended on random occasions but I really wasn't interested. I thought this was just a thing my husband needed, but not me.  I did believe in a God, but I was confused at all the things I had been through and also after the death of my Grandfather I knew I could never forgive him for taking him so early.
I remember my husband praying one night. He had been given an opportunity to work with our flatmate, we had also been looking at places all over Australia as possible places to live. We spent a lot of time even applying for jobs. My husband prayed asking what we should do next, where to go and for Heavenly Father to guide him.  A few nights later my husband received a phone call from his uncle saying he had work up in Central Queensland and would he be interested; we decided to go.
Arriving in Gladstone: We arrived on a Friday evening and the first Sunday my husband got up and went to church, I thought I may as well tag along since I didn’t want to stay home alone, We sat right at the back, we were greeted by so many smiling faces, I actually felt nervous, A kind lady was sitting not far from us and passed us a note during sacrament meeting, She invited us for lunch...we were shocked. We would never get this in Sydney! So why not.
We met with Sister and Elder Fenton a lot, They would pick us up and drop us off each Sunday as we didn’t have a car.  They fed us lunch and introduced us to all the members, I thought this was great.  I wasn't a member but they welcomed me with open arms. I sat through prayer and church meetings for a few weeks, and the Fenton's asked if I would like to learn more.  I thought about it and just thought, nah, lets not ruin a good thing, I'm happy how I am.
After a month I got my first job, I didn’t have a car, so was looking at taking taxi's to and from work each day, The Fentons came by and said they would take me. They took me to work for 3 weeks! And even when they were busy or had appointments they arranged for other members to help me out. I remember saying to my husband, woah, who does this!? He laughed and just reminded me, You are a child God and they are doing the Lord's work.
After all of this, I had great spiritual experiences, I prayed for a god to help us and be able to get on with our lives, I become more open to the idea of the church, I loved being around members and looked forward to going to church to see everyone.
My prayers were answered often and quickly.  I prayed for Heavenly Father to help me find a new car so I was able to get to work; I had been looking for about a month, calling people with no answer or luck. The moment I got a phone call about starting work, I looked online and found the perfect car for us, I messaged the girl selling it, and after about a week of looking we decided it was too expensive. Straight away she messaged back with a new price, right in our price range, so we brought it.
It took 3 weeks for our car to be good on the road, through that time the Fentons took me to work and drove me around everywhere I needed to go, this was the first time I really had to rely on others. It was so unnatural for me and hard to get my head around, but soon after my car was on the road I realized it was Heavenly Father, He wanted me to spend more time with the Fentons to build my relationship with them and become more and more comfortable with them.
I was feeling happy, even though life was difficult with jobs and being in a new place but coming to church I saw the goodness and how my life could be, One evening we were having a meal with the Fentons, for some reason I just knew I needed to start my lessons. They had asked previously if I was interested but I brushed it off thinking no it was not for me.
The funniest thing happened, I was at work and had a spare moment to myself and I just remembered about the time I prayed as a young 10 year old girl.  It was crazy and this thought kept coming back to me over the days following, I knew I had to make the change. Someone was reminding me of the promise I had made.
Anyway as I was leaving I went to Sister Fenton, and said I'd like to start my lessons, We quickly got together and shared stories, lessons and a lot more food! It was great, everything made sense and I picked it up so quickly, It just felt right.
Baptism Time: It was such a spiritual day, Good and Bad. In the morning I woke up thinking 'Woah' This day is going to be great. Well... to start with it was the complete opposite, I was grumpy, For some reason my husband and I didn’t agree on anything and had a massive argument (over nothing!) this is very very rare for us! So we got on with our day, finally we arrived at the chapel, even then I was anxious, excited and impatient. We soon realized it was Satan’s power attempting to throw everything off the rails. We got there in the end and it was an incredible, everyone said the Spirit was so strong. It was an awesome experience which even I can't explain in words.

This is just the beginning for me & I can't wait to learn, pray and live by the gospel.
I have a strong testimony and I can't wait for it to grow, I have confidence in all that I have learned so far about the church of Jesus Christ is true and I believe Joseph Smith was a true prophet who brought the church back so we can enjoy all the benefits of the gospel, and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
