MISSION MIRACLE

We have a grand miracle! This beautiful woman got baptized on June 9, 2014! She was supposed to be baptized on June 14, but she had to leave for Japan on June 10. That baptism day was a miracle in and of itself. Right before she got baptized though, she caught a cold. She wasn't sure if she should get baptized that day. Luckily, Elder Andersen, Elder Low, and Elder Ladd got locked in the car park of the Kangaroo Point chapel, so they were able to give her a blessing when she arrived in the chapel. Straight away, she felt better.
Her growth in the church has been immense. When she first arrived in Australia, she was GQed by Elder Tribe and Elder Yan. She was then later referred to the River Terrace 3 sisters. Before she went on a trip abroad, when the sisters were teaching her, she was not sure if she wanted to be baptized. During her trip abroad, she experienced trials ranging from family problems to relationship problems to getting into a major car accident. All of these trials came all at once to her.  She told us that her car accident was so bad that she should've died in it. She told us the reason that she didn't die is because she had the Book of Mormon in the car. She believes that there is a power that came from this book that saved her. After coming back from her trip, she was sure that she wanted to get baptized. We have seen this gospel work in her life. We have seen the peace and comfort it has brought her. We have seen the mighty change occur in her. Wherever she goes in this world, she will be such a blessing to those around her.

MISSION MIRACLE

THIS AMAZING NEW MEMBER is the 22-year-old nephew of one of our members in the ward where we are serving.  Elder 'Iongi and I first met him during Elder 'Iongi's final week on the mission. Despite not having a belief in God or an interest in religion, he came along with us and his cousin to a musical fireside that was at the chapel on the night we met him. He had a really good time listening to the music, and thanked us for inviting him. We came into contact with him again about a month later on a visit to his aunt's home. We didn't talk to him for long, mostly just had a catch-up and then taught his cousin a lesson about the priesthood. That night, we received a text message from him; he told us that his life was in turmoil, and he had no sense of identity anymore. He had no idea how to find himself, and his life felt very empty. He'd turned to everything in an attempt to find something that satisfied the emptiness he felt, but nothing had worked. He said his aunt told him to ask us if we could help him. We had our first lesson with him the next night, discussing his identity as a child of a loving Heavenly Father. We told him that God truly does exist, and that he could find that out for himself. We taught him about the Book of Mormon, and how to pray. We saw him a couple of times after that, and he told us that he had been praying, and was thinking he should get baptized. We set a date with him. As the weeks went on, we met with him multiple times a week to teach him. He was full of questions, and loved learning about the gospel. He loved reading the Book of Mormon. In a week he had read from 1 Nephi to the beginning of Alma. When we taught the Plan of Salvation, his entire countenance changed. He had always believed that this life was it. You could see hope in his eyes as he learned what happens after our time in mortality. After this discussion, we were able to bump up his baptismal date by a month. However, we encountered a bit of a problem. During the time that we were teaching him, he was charged for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. He was innocent of the crime, but despite being innocent he was unable to be baptized until he was cleared of the charges. We wouldn't know until his court date, which would take place 2 weeks after his baptismal date. We prayed very hard that he would be able to prove his innocence. That prayer was answered sooner than expected. His lawyer was able to meet with the prosecution about 2 weeks before the court date and prove that there was no way that these charges were true; he could not have stolen the vehicle. The prosecution offered to drop all charges if he would give them all information on whom he had purchased the vehicle from. As soon as we found out that he could be baptized, we gave him a call. We asked if he still wanted to be baptized that weekend. He told us he had been praying the night before that he would be able to. On the 28th of June, we were blessed to see him enter the waters of  baptism.

MISSION MIRACLE

We found this wonderful new member while knocking doors, she told us to come back to teach her. We invited her to church the next day and she came. The YSA invited her to Cairns after church for a baptism, some more meetings and a fireside. After she got home we went to teach her, as we sat down she said "who do I talk to about being baptized?" We set a date with her right then and she progressed incredibly quickly. Reading from the beginning of the Book of Mormon clear through the book of Alma in only two weeks. She is now preparing to serve a mission!

FINAL INTERVIEWS & FLAT INSPECTIONS COOMERA ZONE

  COOMERA ZONE - JULY 2014
We completed our final flat inspection and interviewing the missionaries in the Coomera Zone--what a great way to end! We have loved seeing the missionaries in their living spaces and are working to help them understand the wonderful counsel that we receive in the Doctrine & Covenants:
“Let all things be done in cleanliness before me” (D&C 42:41).
We love what President Hinckley has shared for all of us:  "Everything looks better when there is cleanliness...We have a saying that used to be heard more commonly:
“Cleanliness is next to godliness.”
We are grateful for so many of these Elders & Sisters who have learned the value of taking care of what they have and keeping things clean and orderly.

MISSION MIRACLE

One day we were out door knocking. We were having little success, so we thought we’d try a different street. At the very last door we met this guy who was just visiting his friend for the day. We told him we love to talk to everyone! As the conversation went on he told us that his wife is a member of the church but she doesn’t go anymore. He talked about how the elders used to come visit them. We asked if there would be a good time for us to come and visit him and his wife. The only time they were both available was Monday at noon.
As Monday rolled around, we went to visit them thinking they wouldn’t be home or might not even be interested. We knocked on the door, and his wife answered. By the looks of it, she didn’t seem interested at all. But with a smile on our face we told her who we were and that her husband invited us to come over. She told us she knew who we were and what we were trying to do, but still asked if we wanted to come in. Our small talk led to the ultimate question…”When were you baptized?” With this simple question she opened up about how her family had been going through a rough time and she felt like they needed to come to a church. We shared with her the miracle of how we found her husband and testified to her that God is mindful of them and that is why he had sent us to them. We later found out that as we prayed with them that afternoon, she had felt the Spirit for the first time again in many years.
We began teaching their family;  the father was there for all the lessons. As we visited on one particular night, we brought a member with us and planned on setting a baptismal date with him. As the lesson progressed we felt that the member should be the one to extend the baptismal invite. With no way of letting the member know, we waited and were surprised when the member said, “I feel that you are ready. I feel inspired to invite you to be baptized on July 5th. Will you be baptized then?” Our jaws dropped, but even more so when this great father said yes. He hadn’t smoked for four days and was so ready to give it up.  So the baptism would be a whole week earlier than planned!
The coming week we met with them every day. As the baptismal interview drew closer and closer we got more and more nervous. But when we asked him the baptismal interview questions, we were amazed at how well he answered them. Like proud parents, we watched him come out of his interview. He’d passed!
As he entered the water we thought of the life he had had and the decisions he had made. Then to see him be raised up out of that water, completely clean…what a miracle! Since then we have been able to witness his ordination to the Aaronic priesthood and the strength that has been brought to their entire family as they read the Book of Mormon and live the doctrines of the gospel. We know that God’s hand really is in this work and that he is preparing his children to receive the restored gospel. Our duty is to simply go out and find them. How great is our calling!

STILL JUMPING FOR JOY!

The Australia Brisbane Mission office was

We are so grateful for these incredible missionaries!
