CHINESE TRAINING MEETING

There are 28 Missionaries called to serve in the Australia Brisbane Mission speaking      Mandarin Chinese.
It is an amazing dimension to this mission working with these great young men and young women, who are working miracles in Queensland teaching and baptizing.  We now have Chinese Training Leaders who oversee the missionaries assigned to serve in this capacity; they teach, train and manage the situations that are unique to these missionaries.  They held their first Chinese Training Meeting which we were privileged to attend.  Singing hymns in Chinese was a first
(thinking of our missionary daughter, Sarah, in Taiwan...).
Listening to this fascinating language as they shared scriptures, thoughts and teaching with each other was so inspiring.
THEY ARE WONDERFUL!
These missionaries come from Taiwan, China, Singapore, Japan, United States, Hong Kong, and Australia

  3. We taught English at NPU in Xi'an 2011-12 for BYU's Kennedy Center. We respected the directive to avoid proselyting, but we met some lovely people. One gentleman who visited in our apartment was delighted to practice his English and discuss our Western Culture with us. Early on he said cheerfully, "Tell me about Christian." We told him we must respect our agreement with the Chinese government not to discuss religion. He became more thoughtful and we expected him to say something about his government. Instead he said quietly, "I think many [Chinese] people will know about Jesus Christ." Also, it was interesting to realize while we were there that China and Australia have strong ties. Bless these missionaries!!

  5. When I entered the Brisbane mission as a Chinese speaking missionary in December of 2009, there were only four Chinese speaking missionaries. The transfer before I left, in late 2011, I was district leader over the first Chinese district in Sunnybank (with a total of 6 missionaries in the district, and twelve overall in the mission.) It's incredible to see that it's grown so much! We never would have predicted the day that there were 28 Chinese missionaries in the mission!

I was thrilled to connect you to your mother. She was one of my favorite high school English teachers!

  8. In 1957 through 1959, Before and after that, the Australian Mission >NSW & Qlnd,< only had American & a few Australians. We were English speaking only. It's great that so many languages are taught there and throughout the whole world. P.S. Cars and name tags were not yet invented. Just Bicycles, Public Transportation ,and SHANKS PONIES..
