"On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. It's the day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation. It's the day for us to re-commit to making Australia an even better place for the future.
Australia Day, 26 January, is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet of 11 convict ships from Great Britain, and the raising of the Union Jack at Sydney Cove by its commander Captain Arthur Phillip, in 1788"
We felt the spirit of this day for the Australian people and enjoyed celebrating with them. In church today, we sang Advance Australia Fair, the official national anthem of Australia.
- Australians all let us rejoice,
- For we are young and free;
- We've golden soil and wealth for toil;
- Our home is girt by sea;
- Our land abounds in nature's gifts
- Of beauty rich and rare;
- In history's page, let every stage
- Advance Australia Fair.
- In joyful strains then let us sing,
- Advance Australia Fair.
- Verse 2
- Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
- We'll toil with hearts and hands;
- To make this Commonwealth of ours
- Renowned of all the lands;
- For those who've come across the seas
- We've boundless plains to share;
- With courage let us all combine
- To Advance Australia Fair.
- In joyful strains then let us sing,
- Advance Australia Fair.
