A very unusual fruit found in Australia called Custard Apple.... The taste of a custard apple has been described as like sweet custard mixed with cooked apple or pear flesh. The easiest way to eat custard apples is to just cut in half or pull apart with your hands and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh to eat.
Our very first KANGAROO PIE! We really didn't think that anyone would eat kangaroo, but they do here in Australia. It was a little difficult to think about, especially after feeding the baby kangaroos in Mt. Isa. It tasted like beef in a sauce; tender and tasty. (Yes, President Henderson even tried it...is kangaroo considered "meat")
PASSION FRUIT~~~
We have never actually seen a passion fruit before coming to Australia. It is a most unusual looking fruit, outside and inside. Delicious, passion fruit is rich source of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and fiber. We love having it in our yogurt in the mornings. We did try it plain and it was an interesting texture for me.
GINGER BEER....I had never heard of this drink before, but it is very popular here in Australia. It is a lovely sparkling drink that reminds me of ginger ale. One of our first social occasions after arriving to this country was to relax with a wonderful man, Graham. He brought a few favorite things: Bundaberg's Ginger Beer and Smith's extra thick potato chips. Both were very good and we now have a case of ginger beer that we keep in our pantry.
Below is a picture of a booth at the Westside Market, where we like to go on Saturday mornings to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables. This booth caught President's eye as he was always a believer that vegetables grew better with some classical music playing. *We have never heard of native bees...really?!! The fresh peas are delicious and President is loving popping them into his mouth.
OOOOO yum! Can't wait to try it all with you!
